Four years ago, Alabama Wheelmen organized the 2nd Christina Genco Alabama Memorial ride. This event was special in that we were not only marking the site near the top of Sand Mountain on AL 35 at which Christina Genco was killed, but we were also highlighting the fact that the driver was held responsible for his actions. This was due primarily to the fact that the prosecution was handled by the district attorney from neighboring Marshall County, Steve Marshall. He made supportive comments prior to our event that appeared in a news story that Robert Richardson of WHNT produced and which aired the evening prior to our event. Another story was done after the event which included video interviews with some of the participants. I embedded the video from the stories below, starting with the preview video, in which I am honored to appear along with Mr. Marshall. Although we were both interviewed by Mr. Richardson, I never met Mr. Marshall in person. The second video follows after that. I am hopeful that Mr. Marshall will prove to be an effective and fair leader in Montgomery, and perhaps we cyclists will get the support from law enforcement that has heretofore been lacking in our state.
